Both Hindu and Buddhist historical sites can be found in Trincomalee and its surroundings. Hindus and Buddhists regard these locations as holy.

Nilaweli and Uppuveli, located 16 kilometers and 6 kilometers north of the city, respectively, are among the prettiest beaches on Sri Lanka's Eastern Coast. Surfing, scuba diving, fishing, and whale viewing are all popular activities on the beaches.
